De wereldwijde Our Future Memory<\/a>-campagne die opkomt voor de digitale rechten van bibliotheken, archieven en andere erfgoedinstellingen, heeft er een sterke nieuwe bondgenoot bij.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wikimedia, een van de bekendste voorvechters van vrije kennis en open toegang, heeft de Statement over de Vier Digitale Rechten van Erfgoedinstellingen<\/strong> getekend. Hiermee schaart Wikimedia zich bij een groeiend aantal organisaties die pleiten voor de wettelijke rechten die nodig zijn om kennis in het digitale tijdperk te bewaren en toegankelijk te houden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deze steunbetuiging is van grote betekenis. Wikimedia-projecten, waaronder Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons en Wikidata, zijn onmisbare pijlers van het digitale kennisecosysteem. Hun deelname aan de campagne maakt duidelijk dat het beschermen van de rechten van culturele en erfgoedinstellingen van belang is \u2013 niet alleen voor professionals, maar voor iedereen die vrije en open toegang tot informatie nodig heeft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Door het statmeent te ondertekenen, versterkt Wikimedia de groeiende internationale beweging die pleit voor wettelijke hervormingen rond vier essenti\u00eble rechten die blijvende bewaring en toegang waarborgen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Deze rechten zijn allesbehalve abstract. Ze maken het mogelijk dat instellingen hun publieke missie kunnen blijven vervullen: digitale materialen verzamelen, bewaren voor toekomstige generaties, eerlijk uitlenen en over grenzen heen samenwerken om kennis voor iedereen toegankelijk te houden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Net zoals de steun<\/a> van IFLA liet zien dat bibliotheken wereldwijd achter de campagne staan, laat Wikimedia met deze keuze zien dat open-kennisgemeenschappen zich scharen achter erfgoedinstellingen overal ter wereld.
