On July 4th, Internet Archive Europe launched the “Our Future Memory” campaign at LIBER conference. We are now thrilled to announce that the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) has joined the campaign along with many other institutions. We encourage other institutions to join the movement.

In June, Internet Archive Europe coordinated the panel “AI for Public Good: From Hype to Humanity” at PublicSpaces Conference 2025: Shaping our Digital Future moderated by Caroline de Cock. Jeff Ubois, Daniel Erasmus, Ben Cerveny, and Dr. Lucie Chateau all gave examples of how AI is currently benefiting society and needs to be inclusive to continue to do so. Caroline quipped “AI is applied statistics on steroids… with a serious marketing spin” and everyone agrees: Archives matter not just for memory, but for justice and data equity.

As the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine approaches the incredible milestone of 1 trillion web pages archived, we want to hear from the people who make the web meaningful: you.

Matthias Kirschner from the Free Software Foundation in Europe has written a fantastic children’s book: “Ada & Zangemann – A Tale of Software, Skateboards, and Raspberry Ice Cream”. A launch of the Dutch translation will happen in Q4 – stay tuned for more information.

Internet Archive Europe and Information Labs are teaming up: Humans of AI: Unboxing Public Interest AI in Europe is a new video interview series (15–20 min episodes) that dives into the stories of AI builders working in the public interest — from preserving languages and cultural heritage to tackling climate, health, and open knowledge challenges.

We’re looking for AI researchers, technologists, and changemakers to share their stories. If your work advances the public good, this is your stage. Express your interest or nominate someone inspiring. Let’s put the humans back in AI.

On the 15th of January 2026, we will celebrate the Public Domain Day at the Royal Library of Belgium, in Brussels. Together with Scholars, Advocates, Policy-Makers and Practitioners, we look at the Public Domain, and how we collectively can continue to protect it. And for the first time, the alliance has opened a Call for Contributions aimed at Professionals of the Cultural Heritage Institutions and Advocates to contribute to this day! We want to hear new voices, discover new topics and have a better representation of the activities all over Europe through lightning talks & presentations.
